Beaches

Alcudia Beach, just an 8-minute walk from the JS Sol de Alcudia hotel, features over 7 km of fine white sand bathed by crystal-clear, calm waters. You have to walk quite far out before the water gets deep, making it one of the safest beaches in all of Mallorca.
It is also the largest beach in the Balearic Islands, marking the edge of Alcudia Bay, which continues to offer kilometres of beaches in neighbouring areas such as Playa de Muro and Can Picafort. At Alcudia Beach, you will find a wide range of leisure facilities, both in the water (windsurfing, slides, banana boats, ski-ride, catamarans, sailing boats, pedalos…) and on the sand, including several beach bars (chiringuitos), showers, public toilets, and sun lounger and umbrella hire. It is the largest, most accessible beach in the Alcudia municipality and offers the widest range of activities.

Within the municipality and just a few kilometres from JS Sol de Alcudia, you can also find other beaches such as Playa de Sant Pere, Alcanada, and Es Coll Baix, or Sa Marina—perfect for kitesurfing enthusiasts.

Nature spots

Alcudia is one of the most privileged areas of Mallorca due to its natural environment. The S’Albufera Natural Park is located less than 5 km from Puerto de Alcudia; furthermore, the municipality contains various protected areas ideal for an excursion in touch with nature. Essential visits near JS Sol de Alcudia include: the Puig de la Victòria, a protected area separating the Bays of Pollença and Alcudia, where the old sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Victoria is located; Punta de Manresa, a rocky coastal area with shallow coves and crystal-clear waters worthy of admiration; S’Albufereta, a wetland area surrounded by a landscape that sweeps across orchards and dry lands; Puig de San Martí, highlighted by the presence of the San Martín Cave, with 2 protected species of bats and communities typical of ravines; and Puig de Son Fe, with a great variety of flora and fauna.

Leisure and sport

Thanks to the breadth and scale of Alcudia Beach, you can enjoy a multitude of activities and sports, both in the water and on the sand, with beach volleyball being a popular choice. In the lake district, freshwater water sports are also available, notably the Canoe Rowing Centre (a training ground for Olympic athletes) and the Wake Park.

In the vicinity of the hotel JS Sol de Alcudia, there are numerous road cycling routes, including the famous climbs of the Serra de Tramuntana and the Formentor Lighthouse, as well as mountain biking and Nordic Walking trails. Furthermore, as a guest of JS Sol de Alcudia, you will have access to a cycling centre
to make the most of your holiday.

Finally, the stunning Alcanada Golf Club deserves a mention. This 18-hole course is considered by many to be the most beautiful on the island, offering breathtaking views over the bay and located just 6 km from the hotel.

Heritage and culture

Once inhabited by Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans, Alcudia owes its name (Al-qudya) to the Moorish settlement that lasted from 903 until the arrival of James I “The Conqueror” in 1229. These civilisations left behind architectural traces of great beauty, such as the Roman site of Pollentia (the capital of Mallorca during the Roman Empire and the finest example of Romanisation in the Balearics), the Roman theatre, and the historic centre of Alcudia with its manor houses, imposing gateways, and ancient walls. Every Wednesday, there is a free guided tour of the historic centre from 10:00 to 12:00, starting from the church.

Another cultural highlight is the Museu Sa Bassa Blanca, designed by Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy and perfectly integrated into nature. Since 1993, it has housed the Yannick and Ben Jakober Foundation, featuring one of the most important private art collections on the island.

A must-visit are the traditional local markets. In Puerto de Alcudia, the market is held at Plaça de Cas Vicari on Fridays (8:00 AM – 1:30 PM); in Alcudia town, it takes place on Tuesdays and Sundays (8:00 AM – 1:30 PM). Don’t miss the Cuttlefish Nautical and Gastronomic Fair during the third weekend of April, featuring maritime products and tastings of local cuttlefish dishes.
